Railway Town Gennep: Trains, Royalty, and Stories
Around 1900, Gennep was the place where trains, travelers, and stories came together. Here, you could find the headquarters, the border station, and the workshops of the North Brabant-German Railway Company (NBDS). This railway line between Boxtel and the German Wezel connected Gennep with the world.
A Royal Route
This route was part of the fastest connection between London, Berlin, and Saint Petersburg. Even European royalty, such as the German Emperor and the Russian Tsar, disembarked here. International mail between Great Britain, the USA, and Northern and Eastern Europe also traveled via the "Duits Lijntje" (German Line).
The Blue Brabander
The "Blue Brabander" was the proud express train that quickly brought mail and passengers to their destinations. This train put Gennep on the map as a lively and important railway town.
