Welcome to the official guide for waste and recycling in the Municipality of Gennep. On this page, you read how to separate your waste, where to bring special waste, and how to use the recycling center (milieustation).

2. Waste Collection at Home

We collect the following waste at your home:

  • Residual waste (grey bin): every 4 weeks.
  • Organic waste (green bin): every 2 weeks. This is free.
  • PMD: every 2 weeks in official PMD bags. You get these bags for free at supermarkets and municipal offices.
  • Paper:
    • Gennep, Heijen, Milsbeek: once a month.
    • Ottersum and Ven-Zelderheide: no home collection. Use drop-off points.

Each household receives:

  • a green bin for organic waste
  • a grey bin for residual waste

3. Drop-off Points

Glass containers (bottles and jars only):

  • Locations: Het Straatje, 2e Dwarsweg, Europaplein, Willem Boyeweg, Wilhelminaplein (Gennep), Nieuwwijkstraat (Heijen), Schoolstraat (Milsbeek), Sint Jozefplein (Ottersum), Kerkvonder (Ven-Zelderheide).

Textiles: Clothes, shoes, belts, bags (clean and dry).

  • Locations: Het Straatje, 2e Dwarsweg, Europaplein, Willem Boyeweg, Wilhelminaplein (Gennep), Nieuwwijkstraat (Heijen), Schoolstraat (Milsbeek), Sint Jozefplein (Ottersum), Kerkvonder (Ven-Zelderheide).

Paper:

  • Ottersum: St. Jozefplein (Saturdays 09.00–12.00)
  • Ven-Zelderheide: Kerkvonder (every 5–6 weeks, announced locally)
  • Milsbeek: 24/7 container at Zwarteweg (near sports fields)

4. Recycling Center (Milieustation)

  • Address: Groote Heeze 33, Heijen
  • Opening hours:
    • Friday: 09:00 – 17:00
    • Saturday: 09:00 – 15:00
      (Closed on public holidays)
  • Bring your ID. Payment by card only.
  • Accepted items: bulky waste, electrical appliances, construction debris, hazardous waste, large Styrofoam pieces.
  • Costs:
    • Garden waste: €7.50 per 2 m³
    • Wood, furniture: €15 per 2 m³
    • Clean rubble: €10 per 1 m³
    • Asbestos (properly packed): €10 per 1 m³
    • Garbage bag: €5 each
    • Tires with rim: €3 each
    • Free to bring: paper, mattresses, glass, white/brown goods, textiles, tires without rim (max. 5), scrap metal, frying oil, fluorescent tubes, diapers, and clean EPS foam.

5. Chemokar (Mobile Hazardous Waste Collection)

Hazardous waste does not belong in regular bins. Examples: batteries, paint, varnish, energy-saving bulbs, cleaning agents, old medicines. You can: 
  • bring it to the recycling center
  • use the Chemokar (mobile collection which visits once a month on the first Saturday)

Chemokar schedule:

Odd months (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov)

  • Ottersum – Sint Jozefplein: 09.00–10.30
  • Ven-Zelderheide – Kerkvonder: 11.00–12.00
  • Milsbeek – Schuttersplein: 13.00–14.30
  • Heijen – Dorpsplein/Nieuwwijkstraat: 15.00–16.00

Even months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec)

  • Gennep – Norbertplein: 09.00–12.00
  • Gennep – Parking ’t Straatje: 13.00–16.00

6. Deposit System (Statiegeld)

You get money back for plastic bottles and cans with the statiegeld logo. Return them at supermarkets. Refund: €0.10–€0.25.

7. Practical Tips

  • Rinse packaging lightly before recycling.
  • Flatten cardboard boxes.
  • Use official PMD bags (free at supermarkets) – mandatory for collection.
  • Do not put batteries or electronics in regular bins.
