Memento

General

Memento means “remember.” This artwork invites you to do just that. Artist Elise ’t Hart created a soundscape, combining sounds from the garden with short audio pieces played through speakers. Together, they form a unique listening experience.

A place to pause for a moment

In the garden, you will find three seating areas: one for sitting together and two for those who prefer to sit alone.

Every 30 minutes you will hear a five‑minute composition. You will hear familiar sounds, such as striking a match, a sung melody, and the soft ticking of a clock. These sounds may evoke memories—of warmth and connection, but also of absence and loss. You are invited to attach your own story to them.

Some sounds refer, for example, to the time of COVID‑19. For many people, that was an intense period—full of concerns, yet also marked by mutual care. Memento is a place to be, to commemorate, and to remember.
